Understanding SUM Together Initiative: Phase 1 is Underway

Did you read about the Understanding SUM Together Initiative in The Messenger? It is

a lot of material, but we want to keep you informed along this journey of listening,

learning and understanding who we are, who we want to be, and what we need to do to

get there ~ together.

Phase 1 is now underway. The initial confidential Listening Conversations are being

conducted over Zoom by Pastors Mel and Dennis with church members from across the

congregation consisting of long-term members, new members, various ages, and

backgrounds.

Phase 2 will follow. Only the advisors (retired clergy – Mel Kawakami, Dennis

Winkleblack, and Deb Clifford) will review the complete conversation transcripts to

identify recurring themes and insights so we can all move on to Phase 3 together – the

church-wide survey (scheduled for late August).

This is just a snapshot of what is going on behind the scenes as we all work together to
