What’s in a Name?

If you were to see my name on a caller ID, an email, or a social media feed, you might find yourself doing a double-take. Yes, it’s a name that carries plenty of pop-culture "star power," but here in Simsbury, it belongs to someone whose heart is firmly planted in community, family, and the daily hustle of a very active household.

While my name might be the first thing people notice, it’s the journey behind it—and the people who call me "Mom"—that truly defines me.

From the West Coast to Simsbury
Sixteen years ago, I traded the California sun for the beautiful changing seasons of Connecticut. Since 2010, Simsbury has been the place where I’ve raised my children, and our family has been so grateful to grow within such a kind and loving community. If you don’t see me in the pews, there is a very high probability you’ll find me in the bleachers or a theater seat. My children are the heartbeat of my world, and their many activities certainly keep me moving:

Jada: Currently a student at UHart, Jada is a powerhouse of leadership. Between her sorority involvement and her roles as a cheerleading coach and summer camp leader, she has a gift for bringing people together and orchestrating events.
Mateo: Now a senior at Simsbury High, Mateo is my resident multi-sport athlete. Whether it’s the Friday night lights of football, the intensity of the wrestling mat, or the grit of the rugby pitch, I’ve spent many hours cheering him on through every season.  With cowbell in hand!
Mila: My youngest brings the music to our lives. She is a gifted singer and a mainstay in musical theater productions, balancing her love for the stage with her energy as a cheerleader at Simsbury High. Mila keeps us organized and on task.

A Career of Purpose
My professional life has always been about the "how" and the "why." After years spent in global operations and human resources for companies like ESPN, Gap Inc., and Robert Half, I’ve shifted my focus closer to home. Whether I am managing a busy office, streamlining operations, consulting through my business, or volunteering for our community, I try to keep it all together with a smile and a can-do attitude.

Beyond the Desk
When I’m not wearing my "Office Manager" hat or coordinating the family calendar, I’m likely finding balance in a Bikram yoga class or sharing stories at the local library. I believe that everyone is a "human library" of experiences, and I love the way storytelling can bridge the gaps between us.

Why I’m Here
To me, a congregation is a place to grow together. I look forward to getting to know your stories just as much as I look forward to sharing mine. So, what’s in a name? A lot of history, a bit of humor, and a whole lot of gratitude to God for placing me in this community.  I am now "in the boat,” and truly honored to serve SUM and Pastor DH.

Next time you see me, please stop and say hello. I’d love to learn what’s in your name, too!

Best,
JLo
