A Joyful Welcome to Pastor DH

There’s a fresh wave of excitement in the air here at SUM as we welcome our new pastor, Dong Hyun Choi (DH). With an infectious energy and a heart devoted to bridging cultural divides, Pastor DH is ready to bring his passion for ministry to our congregation.

When DH steps into a room, it’s as if a light turns on—his warmth, enthusiasm, and deep love for God are truly inspiring. Born and raised in South Korea as the son of a pastor, DH has dedicated his life to faith and service. His journey has taken him from South Korea to New Jersey, where he earned his Master of Divinity at Drew University and is now pursuing his Doctor of Ministry with a focus on cross-cultural and cross-racial ministry development.

DH’s mission has always been about building bridges—between cultures, traditions, and people of all backgrounds. He has served in diverse communities, bringing them together through prayer, dialogue, and a shared commitment to Christ’s teachings. His previous role as Pastor at First United Methodist Church of Greenwich and New Life Korean United Methodist Church has further deepened his ability to foster unity and spiritual growth.

Beyond the pulpit, DH is a gifted singer, a passionate preacher, and a family man. He and his wife, Jiseon Kim, met during a mission trip to China, and together they have two wonderful sons, Jason and James, who will soon join Henry James Middle School and Squadron Line School.
