We have a strong following due to the facilitators and their book choices. It is not surprising that they have chosen another great book to start off their fall classes.
Genesis to Revelation Minor Prophets Participant Book: A Comprehensive Verse-by-Verse Exploration of the Bible by Gene M Tucker
What does the Bible say? What does it mean? How does it relate to my life? Genesis to Revelation will strengthen your understanding and appreciation of the Scripture by helping you engage on these three levels. The meaning of the selected passages is made clear by considering such aspects as ancient customs, locations of places, and the meanings of words.
Tuesday Morning 10:30 – noon, Sept 23 – Oct 14, with Eileen Brogan
We have a regular group of church members and non-members who enjoy a challenge and a chance to question and learn.
Tears of Things by Richard Rohr
One of our most prominent spiritual voices offers a wholehearted and hope-filled model for the world today, grounded in the timeless wisdom of the Hebrew prophets. How do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel in such an unjust world? Richard Rohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets, revealing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a crucial path forward today.
Drop in, Discuss, Discover (DDD reimagined) Wednesday 5:30 – 6:30 Sept 10 – Oct 8 with Susan Hanson & Sue Gannon
This is very exciting. Two members of the original DDD class have stepped up to continue God’s work. A name changes, but the energy and camaraderie will be the same.
Drop in — no preparation work
Discuss — positive sharing
Discover — a new way of thinking, coping, and doing
Created for Connection (Breakthrough)
Dr Vivek Murthy (former Surgeon General of the United States) says that “loneliness and isolation represent profound threats to our health and well-being.” This reality reflects what our faith already teaches us: God created us for connection and community. Drawing on the experiences of the early church in scripture, let us relearn how God leads us into lives of meaningful relationship with Godself and one another.
Women’s Bible Study Thurs 10:30 – noon Sept 11th with Donna Motyl
This group has been meeting for years and continues to welcome new members. This fall, they will be studying the book of Romans – taking the time to see how this letter may help us as Christians in the 21st century. We will read and discuss the book of Romans together in class. Sometimes hearing the word from another translation helps all have a better understanding of the Scripture. So come to class with your favorite Bible, and we will learn together.
NEW & EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR MEN AND WORKING FOLKS
Evening Study Group 6:30 – 8 pm, Sept. 25 – Nov 13 with John Thomson (& Eileen Brogan)
The True Measure of a Man by Richard Simmons III
While the focus of this book is on men, pay attention, Women! You can also glean some wisdom to better understand your spouse, father, brother, or son, or just the male-oriented world. We all struggle with people pleasing and pride. Three key topics will challenge us to be more Christ-like every day. First is the statement, “Character, wisdom, and love make up the essence of what it means to be an authentic man.” The second deals with “What does humility look like?” And third is the question of “When it gets right down to it, whose opinion of my life matters most?”
We hope you can join us. Here is the link to our ASG page.
